never let a slip-up turn into a give-up
one relapse is a data point. a binge is a story. the difference is what you do in the next hour.
a slip is an event. a give-up is a decision. most 'i ruined everything' nights are decisions wearing event clothing.
the abstinence violation effect is predictable: you break a rule, shame spikes, and the brain says the day is already trash — so why stop? that story is the real relapse.
protocol, not poetry: move within five minutes. no verdicts for 24 hours. write one lead-up sentence. recommit to tomorrow only. the streak number can reset. the skill you practiced does not.
speed of recovery beats purity of the streak.
if your goal was porn-free and you masturbated without porn, that's different information than a three-hour binge across sites. name what actually happened. vague self-hate erases useful data.
you will slip again someday. the only open question is whether that night becomes a month. the first hour is how you answer.
